‘Beyond The Pale” is about me reaching for the next step. The relationship between
black and white photography and oil paint…
pushing the envelope…going outside the box…going beyond the pale.
Stepping into components to extend the image beyond a mat, beyond a frame.  A new life for my photographs,
merging them with paint, coinciding with altered art, existing with mixed media. It is a handpainted photograph
textured and complex.  It’s the scratching away and adding to…layers of paint, ink and fabric,
print and ephemera, mosaic and collage melding together and embracing my images.

A pale is an old name for a pointed stake driven into the ground to form part of a fence. Civilization stopped at the boundary of the
pale and beyond lay those outside the area accepted as 'home'.
